After 61 years as the heart of Arlington Heights, Arlington High School closed in 1984.  There was a huge public outcry, along with juggled statistics, lawsuits, and lots of red ribbons.  What went wrong?   This 3rd installment of our Arlington Heights history series presents the dramatic story (researched and written by Chip Brooks) of how and why Arlington High was closed.  Our musical version of the story goes back over 200 years and places a tiny bit of the blame on Thomas Jefferson.  This show presents snippets – some comical, some serious — from 30 public meetings and hearings, interspersed with a live band performing songs from the eras of the meetings.  In fact, the band members will also play the “dramatic” roles in the show.  This isn’t just an Arlington Heights story — It is a highly entertaining look at the importance of education to a community and how public bodies can fail.
