Chicago has a long tradition of tenor saxophone giants, from Johnny Griffin to Von Freeman, from Gene Ammons to Eddie Harris. John Wojciechowski is a reigning lion of Chicago tenor players, performing with the very best players all over town, and all over the world. On January 30, John will bring his John Wojciechowski Quartet to Hey Nonny for a special evening called “Inspired by John Coltrane,” which will feature some compositions by Coltrane, and others from Wojo’s own prolific compositional pen. Wojo grew up on Mt. Clemens, Michigan, the son of a sheet metal worker and Hammond B-3 organ ace. After graduating from college, Wojo spent time honing his craft in Detroit and New York City, before finally moving to Chicago in 2002. The John Wojciechowski Quartet also includes drummer Dana hall, pianist Ryan Cohen, and bassist Dennis Carroll.
