The Huns: A late 60’s Rock and Roll Cellar Band

For the first time in 57 years, join the Huns for a whole evening of the cherished late 60’s rock & roll music that they played at the iconic Cellar teen club in Arlington Heights and other local Chicago venues back in the day!!

Last October the Huns (featuring 4 of the 5 original members) were invited to open the “A Blast From The Cellar” album release show at Hey Nonny. (That entire show is on YouTube). The album included some of their recorded music. The opening 4 song set was so well received that Hey Nonny is featuring the Huns for this full night solo show. Be prepared for a nostalgic

night with the music of Saturdays Children, The Shadows of Knight, The Cryan Shames, The Byrds, The Who, The Yardbirds, The Hollies, The Animals, Buffalo Springfield, The Kinks, and a few others.

The band was formed by the 3 guitar players, Bob Dempsey, Mark Abate, and Bill McCaffrey in the eighth grade for a school talent show. Lead singer/songwriter Dave Grundhoefer and drummer Herb Klein joined the band freshman year when they all attended St. Viator High School here in Arlington Heights. Jeff Kmeic will sit in for the late Herb Klein on drums at this show. At age 15, in 1966, The Huns recorded their first record and opened for schoolmate Ted Nugent and The Amboy Dukes at the Cellar. Their experience of performing on the same stage that had featured The Who, The Cream, Buffalo Springfield, and the Byrds is still a formative teen memory for the band. Before the group disbanded in 1969, they went on to share the Cellar stage with many local and national bands including Jesse Colin Young and the

Youngbloods and one hit wonder Strawberry Alarm Clock.

The band members are now scattered from coast to coast. After 55 years the band had a reunion in Seattle where they rented a studio, played the old songs, and told stories for 4 days in the summer of 2024. That led to their opening the “Blast from the Cellar” album release show and this current solo show. The Huns hope you will join them for this nostalgic late 60’s music!
