About the Artist

About Typhanie Monique:

Soul-infused-jazz stylist, Typhanie Monique has been a force on the Chicago music scene. A native of Stevens Point, WI, Typhanie Monique is a respected bandleader, songwriter, versatile vocalist and a highly in-demand educator, having taught at some of Chicago’s most recognized institutions, along with coaching recording artists from around the world. Typhanie is known for her time with bands; SUMO, Peking Turtle, and Jive Council, Tributosaurus (EWF, Prince, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles), The Booty Movement Coalition, dropping House singles with Mr. Egg Germ, and a prominent figure on the international jazz scene. Typhanie has graced jazz’s most distinguished venues in the U.S. and abroad from the Chicago’s Jazz Showcase, City Winery to Vogue’s International Design Festival in Moscow, Russia. Typhanie has shared the stage and recorded with Joe Lovano, Chris Potter, The
Manhattan Transfer, Mavis Staples, Joel Frahm, Ken Peplowski, Victor Goines, and Tony Monaco.
Typhanie’s teaching resume is as diverse as her performance experience. Ms. Monique has educated and mentored vocalists in the academic world at Northwestern University, DePaul University, and Columbia College Chicago. August 2024, a recent move to the southwest, Typhanie joins an esteemed group of colleagues at Arizona State University as Clinical Associate Professor of Popular Music, Voice.
For more than a decade, Typhanie was an instructor, performer, presenter and community member of the Old Town School of Folk Music where she developed numerous vocal courses and graced the OTSFM stage performing many concerts including her Call It Magic, CD release extravaganza. She occasionally presents workshops and will forever hold OTSFM in her heart. Typhanie earned a BM in Music Business from Elmhurst University, Elmhurst, IL and a MA in Vocal Pedagogy from Northeastern Illinois University, Chicago, IL. She is certified in Somatic Voicework Levels I and II and is a certified trained Vocologist (2023) under the direction of Dr. Ingo Titze at the Summer Vocology Institute, University of Utah.
